Traditionally, the National Championships in Europe take place in the spring. Last weekend England, Germany, Romania, Greece and Poland among others fought for the prestigious title.
Yet, the event in the Greek Piraeus was rather something like routine for Kostas Papageorgiou, because he won the so desirable trophy of the Greek master for the sixth time in a row.
The single title went to Li Qian in Wabrzych, Poland. The player of the Club of Tarnobrzeg was able to confirm her well-established position despite a high-class competition.
No opponent was strong enough for TIBHAR star Bernadette Szöcs: with her partner Dodean Monteiro, they won the doubles in Constanta. The young Tibhar player Cristian Pletea was also a good ambassador for Romania. He can be satisfied with bronze in the doubles and the mixed doubles.
Bronze also went to Kristin Silbereisen and her club colleague, Sabine Winter, who had to surrender to TIBHAR player Chantal Mantz (with Yuan Wan) at the German Championships in Bielefeld. In addition to this third rank, the tournament had a gold finish for Kristin Silbereisen in the single competition; she secured this title for the second time after 2010, by winning over Sabine Winter.
Paul Drinkhall was a double champion in the English Closed Championships. He recorded an exciting 4-2 win over Sam Walker to lift the Men’s Singles for the fifth time and then in combination with Liam Pitchford they showed their strength with a convincing win in the Men’s Doubles.
Tibhar send their congratulations to all of the National Winners over this exciting week-end of World class table tennis.
