The German Bundesliga club of small Saarland reaches the finals of the German Championships for the second time after 2012.
The semi-finals of the TTBL play-offs took place last weekend at home. Saarbruecken met the renowned club TTF LIEBHERR Ochsenhausen. The first leg saw the narrow victory of Ochsenhausen (3-2), giving equal winning chances to both parties.
In front of a public of nearly 900 spectators, TIBHAR star Bojan Tokic and his team colleagues, Tiago Apolonia and Adrien Mattenet, gave their best to reach the TTBL finals.
The Portuguese Olympic participant Tiago Apolonia was opposed to the French National Team player, Simon Gauzy in the first disputed singles. Thanks to a master piece of table tennis, Tiago secured the first point (3-0).
The second game took place between Bojan Tokic and Brazil’s young hope Hugo Calderano: here too the Saarbruecken player was victorious at the end, which was not necessarily to be expected because the Slovenian in the first leg against Calderano had not much of a chance.
At break, the host club was leading 2:0, what increased the pressure on the shoulders on Ochsenhausen’s number 3, the Polish player Jakub Dyjas. Dyjas engaged a good party against the Frenchman Adrien Mattenet, leading 2-1, however thanks to wonderful ball services, Mattenet managed to turn the game to his advantage and secured the victory to his club in the 5th set.
The Saarbruecken Sports hall was jubilating: the team stands in TTBL finals.
Now, only the German record champions from Düsseldorf can stop the FCS-TT. After all, the defending champions from North Rhine-Westphalia have Timo Boll in their ranks, the best-known German top player of the last 10 years.
